Solve: The Interactive Crime Podcast Where You Crack The Case

Mature FBI agent works on a case alone

Solve is an interactive podcast that makes you the detective. Each episode will present a case inspired by a true crime, interrogating suspects, examining the crime scene, and piecing together the evidence, giving listeners a chance to crack the case on their own. This episode, Till Death Do Us Part, presents us with the murder of a wealthy divorcée named Dana. We hear her 911 call, telling police that her husband and ex-husband are fighting in her living room; they have a gun, and “there’s a lot of blood.” She takes refuge in her bedroom, but the lock doesn’t work. Suddenly, we hear Dana plead, “Baby, no, please don’t do this!” and a gunshot. Now it’s time to figure out: who killed Dana?

Naturally, our attention turns first to the two men we know were on the scene: Roger, the new husband, and James, the ex. We learn that James and Dana were married for 25 years and had a daughter named Margaret. They divorce after James cheats on Dana and leaves her for a woman named Rachel. Margaret wants to help Dana get back in the dating game, but Dana isn’t really into it. She ends up spending a lot of time with her best friend, Barbara, much to the chagrin of Barbara’s boyfriend, Roger, who doesn’t seem to like Dana – until one day Barbara discloses that Dana has a lot of money now that’s she’s divorced. Later, he goes to Dana’s house to fix her sink, at Barbara’s request, he tells us: “She didn’t have a man in her life, and honestly I felt bad for her.” But he and Dana are drawn together, and they have an affair behind Barbara’s back.

Though Dana seems happy, Margaret isn’t so sure about Roger. He claims that Dana likes to spoil him; they go on several trips, getting penthouse suites and decadent meals; Roger proposes to Dana, saying they have a “primal connection.” But Margaret can’t find any information about him on the Internet and is scared that her mother will “end up a lampshade in his basement.” She begs her mother not to accept Roger until she gets a chance to meet him. When she does, she’s relieved at first, saying, “He's actually really nice, funny, charming, handsome, the whole thing. But something kept tugging at me.” She starts snooping through his things, and discovers some sinister secrets. But even after Margaret confronts her with the information she’s uncovered, Dana marries Roger anyway, saying, “people can change."

Close-Up Of Number At Crime Scene

Meanwhile, Barbara, the jilted best friend, says she doesn’t really care that Dana and Roger ended up together; Roger is difficult and unpredictable, “like a roulette wheel,” she says, and “there’s only one thing he likes...and that’s money.” But Roger claims that she’s obsessed with him, parking her car outside of their house and watching them for hours. James starts calling frequently, saying he’s lost a lot of money and needs Dana’s help, that he misses her. And Dana instructs her lawyer to cut Margaret out of her will in favor of Roger, giving her daughter a murder motive as well. “She has a lot of enemies,” Roger tells Dana’s lawyer, and that means quite a few suspects.
