Ashleigh Johnson, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, is considered one of the world's best goalkeepers in women's water polo. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Johnson has made significant contributions to the sport, both nationally and internationally.
Johnson's journey to success began at Princeton University, where she became the all-time career saves leader. Her exceptional performance in the pool earned her All-America honors every season she competed. She graduated in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in psychology.
Johnson's international career is equally impressive. She was part of the U.S. Women's Water Polo team that won gold at the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. She was named the Top Goalkeeper at multiple international tournaments, including the 2024 World Aquatics World Championships in Doha and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Johnson is known for her advocacy work. She supports learn-to-swim and water polo programs in her hometown of Miami. She also made history in 2016 by becoming the first African-American woman to make a U.S. Olympic Women’s Water Polo Team.
Johnson is currently preparing for the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris, aiming to add another gold medal to her collection.
