The trial for Justin Mohn, a 33-year-old man from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, is set to begin today (July 7) in Doylestown. Mohn faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, for the alleged killing and beheading of his father, Michael F. Mohn, in January of last year. Prosecutors accuse Mohn of shooting his father and then decapitating him with a kitchen knife and machete at their Levittown home.
Authorities say Mohn posted a 14-minute video on YouTube, showing himself with his father's severed head, which remained online for several hours before being removed. The video reportedly included rants against the government and other political topics. Mohn was arrested later that day at Fort Indiantown Gap, the Pennsylvania National Guard headquarters, where he allegedly attempted to incite soldiers to rise against the federal government.
When apprehended, Mohn was found with a handgun and a USB device containing photos of federal buildings and instructions for making explosives. He had also expressed anti-government sentiments online and had written to Russia’s ambassador seeking refuge.
Mohn's defense attorney, Steven M. Jones, stated that he does not expect the case to be resolved with a plea deal. If convicted, Mohn could face the death penalty. Michael Mohn, the victim, was a 68-year-old engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
