Police in York County, Pennsylvania, are investigating a swatting incident that occurred on Monday (July 7). First responders were dispatched to a home in Shrewsbury Borough after receiving a report of a barricaded, suicidal person. However, the report turned out to be false, as confirmed by the Southern Regional Police Department.

Swatting involves making false emergency calls to provoke a large police response to a location where no real emergency exists. According to a report by ABC27, the incident led to the closure of the area for investigation, utilizing significant law enforcement resources. The Southern Regional Police emphasized the dangers of swatting, noting that it puts lives at risk and diverts resources from actual emergencies.

The police department expressed gratitude to the Pennsylvania State Police, the York County Quick Response Team, and local Fire Police for their swift assistance. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and there are currently no suspects identified.

The Southern Regional Police Department has urged the public to understand the seriousness of swatting, labeling it a criminal act that can have severe consequences. They remain committed to thoroughly investigating such incidents to prevent future occurrences.
