>Rep. Meuser Decides Against Run For Governor
(Harrisburg, PA) -- A Republican Congressman is ruling out a run for the Governor's Mansion. Representative Dan Meuser says he has decided against entering next year's race and will instead remain focused on his work in the House. Meuser was the preferred Republican candidate of President Donald Trump, who said in a recent rally that Meuser would have his full support if he ran for governor. No Republicans have officially entered the race against incumbent Democrat Josh Shapiro.
The race for Pennsylvania governor in 2026 is already heating up, especially on the Republican side. Here’s a look at some of the potential contenders:
Republican Possibilities
- Stacy Garrity: Currently the state treasurer, Garrity is widely seen as the GOP frontrunner. She’s popular among conservatives and has won statewide office twice, including a record-breaking reelection in 2024.
- Doug Mastriano: The state senator and 2022 GOP nominee is “praying” on a decision to run again. He’s floated the idea of teaming up with Garrity, though many in the party are skeptical of his chances after his previous loss to Shapiro
