The last officer injured in the September 17 ambush in York County, Pennsylvania, has been released from the hospital. Lieutenant David Godfrey of the York County Sheriff's Office was discharged after a two-week stay at WellSpan York Hospital. He will continue his recovery at a rehabilitation facility.
The ambush, which occurred at a property in North Codorus Township, resulted in the deaths of three Northern York County Regional Police Department detectives. Another officer was also injured but has since been released from the hospital. Godfrey, known for his K-9 demonstrations at the York State Fair, expressed gratitude to the community with a brief statement on social media, saying, "I will keep this short. Thank you."
According to a search warrant affidavit, the ambush was linked to Matthew James Ruth, 24, who had charges filed against him for stalking, prowling, and trespassing earlier that day. Items seized from Ruth's truck included handcuff keys and a handcuff box.
The community continues to mourn the loss of the three detectives, and the investigation into the ambush is ongoing.
